After a late night of running around, weighing suitcases, then going back out to buy different suitcases so we met the limit, our alarm clock felt awfully early...we planned to leave the house by 7:30 a.m. Our kids and Wes' mom were all up by 6, excited & ready to go! Needless to say, we got out a few minutes earlier(that RARELY happens around here). Our plane left at 10:30 heading to Dallas with a two hour layover, then off again to New York for a 3 1/2 hour flight and landing there about 6 p.m. It was a long day! Sam & Jack loved sitting by the windows and just took it all in. Both said they were going to be pilots when they got big. Annie had enjoyed using her plane goodie bag that she loaded down with books, paper, and her iPod Shuffle.
We were met at baggage claim by Wes' sister, Cathy, who we hadn't seen in over a year, and her husband, Walt, waiting curbside for us & ALLLLL our bags. Our shoulders are still feelin' the weight of lugging our carry ons all around. It was great to see them! We piled into their suburban, and headed to Little Italy. We were starving and some good, authentic Italian food sounded SOOOOO GOOD!
Here was our first stop...Ferrara's Bakery in Little Italy. You know what they say about the grocery store & an empty stomach??? Well, the same holds true getting off a long flight...I think we walked out with 3 or 4 boxes full of goodies. ALL of them
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I was craving cannolis like you wouldn't believe, so was THRILLED to see the case full of them waiting for me!
Everyone happy with the deliciousness awaiting us for dessert!
Then it was off to dinner at Paesano...very old, family restaurant! The atmosphere & spot by the window were wonderful & the food SOOOOOO delicous! Why doesn't my pasta ever taste that good?? Must be a family secret!
We hit the street for a bit of walking before we headed to Cathy & Walt's house. Amazing all the hustle & bustle on a late Tuesday night.
And we got our first glimpse of "Lady Liberty" as Sam called her...the kids just thought seeing her in "real life" was so awesome!! We would have our turn to see her in the daylight & up close on Day 4...so stay tuned!! Those shots were incredible!!
Before we hit the hay, Sam thought he'd give his own interpretation of Lady Liberty...with a few props from cousin Trip's room. How he was still goin' I have no idea!!
Day 2 and The Museum of Natural History(aka Night at the Museum place to our kids) will be coming up soon!!
Now, who's not hungry for Italian??

So did the bakery have any marble rye left? How about a black and white cookie? Ha, ha...Seinfeld pops into my mind when you mention NYC Bakery. Everything looks so yummy!
And yes, authentic Italian food sounds soooo good right now.

ummmmm yum! so jealous of you guys. I cannot wait to hear what the kids thought of the NH museum. i loved it!
can't wait to see day 2... this is going to be a tRip for ME! cannolis are absolutely my favorite, and no one makes them like ferraros... did you have an espresso there, too?! love the night time street shots. yes, it IS the city that never sleeps. trip's little blonde curls are beautiful!
