Our Birthday Girl!!!

8 years ago today, our lives changed FOREVER, when we became the parents to our first child, a baby girl that we named Annie Elizabeth...She came into the world at 8 lbs. 15.9 oz. and 20 inches long!  What an experience that was...but not terrible enough to stop us from adding two brothers to the mix...

Getting to know you & being unable to stop looking at you...
Already wrapped around his finger after just getting home from the hospital at 2 days old!  Even at the ripe old age of 28 & 27, WE look sooo young!  We had no idea what we were doing...even today, 8 years later, each day brings NEW parenting challenges, but we wouldn't trade it for the world!
It didn't take long till PINK, dress up, & princesses soon came regular fixtures in our lives...
Her 2nd birthday...her first birthday pictures were taken with 35mm film...you remember film, don't you??  We haven't scanned them in to our computer vault yet...
3rd birthday...starting to see a pattern??
4th birthday...a couple days after she CUT her own hair in the bathroom, actually not doing too bad a job that it couldn't be fixed!
5th birthday & still lovin' to wear crowns!
6th birthday...she LOVES her birthday & has planned her parties each year!  She's a theme girl following after her mama's heart!
Last year and #7...still loving princesses, but also horses & unicorns!!
This year we had a Luau swim party a couple weeks ago...it was great to have it done before the busyness of school began!  She picked out the sign online herself & the decorations too!
Annie & cousin Grace...10 days apart, but NEVER apart when they're together!
Sam & Mamamia's Piper...he is ALWAYS eating something!
The big moment!  Actually it was soooo windy, couldn't keep the candles lit for a second...didn't change the taste of that yummy cake though...we LOVE the Cake Shop!  They copied the picture off her invitation...
So many friends & family got to come!  Such a blessed little girl we think!
Mama & Daddy are worn out, but it was ALL worth it!!
So great to have Grams & Pops at the festivities too!
Annie girl, we love you, even MORE than we thought we could 8 years ago!  You are such a smart, fun, beautiful little girl and we are so proud of you and the spirit you carry with you & show to others...keep that sense of play & wonder, and even though you are now 8, don't grow up too fast!!  We love you to the moon & back!

Back to School!!

It happened!  I don't know how, I don't know when, but it happened RIGHT BEFORE my very eyes...it happened so quickly, I blinked and poof, woke up to this day...having my two, oldest "babies" in school...2nd grade & Kindergarten!  It's all just been such a blur...things I remember as if they were yesterday, but somehow those baby & preschool years flew & here we are!

Meet the Teacher Friday went very well...we dropped off their supplies, found their nametags on the floor & desk, saw familiar faces in the room, despite us not recognizing their names on the class list and proceeded through our weekend leading up to this day!  My alarm went off early, 5:20 to be exact, but instead of my usual hitting of the snooze button, I somehow found  myself wide awake & ready to get going.  Annie was feeling the same way and was awake right there with me...I knew later in the day we'd be paying for it, but I wanted to make them a special breakfast & have plenty of time to take pictures.  Daddy and Jack, the typical "men" they are, slept until they were shaken awake.  Jack griped a bit, but then was a happy chatterbox, talking away with his sister...not even a fight to be had!  They were feeling the excitement & nervousness and, I guess, were finding comfort in the fact they'd be going through it together for a change!  I even thought to myself, "Wow, I'm feeling good, I don't feel at all like I'm going to cry...hmmmm, I wonder why that is?"  I was proud of myself that I would be able to get through the morning holding it all together & showing my children how happy I was for them....THAT didn't last long!

Annie girl and her "Pretty in Pink" outfit ready to go!!  She LOVES wearing dresses & had this one picked out to wear ever since it arrived in our mailbox from Lands End!  Notice pink shoes, pink backpack, pink camo lunchbox, pink bandana...any guesses what her favorite color is since she was born???
Jack and his BIG smile that lights up a room!  He could care less to actually have to PICK out his clothes...just choosing a backpack & a lunchbox were enough for him!  Amazing how they can be soooo different!
Sam offering his support...having to WAKE him up is something I usually hate doing, but we all wanted to be there to walk the kids over on their first day...he's quite a ham himself!  Poor thing asks me daily, "Is today MY school mom??"  After all my replies of "not yet", he automatically started telling people, as they walked by us, "My school not yet!"  He's anxious for next Tuesday to come!
Making our trek down the hall towards the gym...boy, was it crowded!!  Lots of cameras & moms/dads everywhere you looked.  I did so well UNTIL...
we hit the gym doors!!!!
Then out of  NO WHERE, tears just began streaming down my face and I couldn't stop!  Then the more I saw my other mom friends, and them coming over to comfort ME, they just kept coming...Sam didn't help when all he said till we actually started walking home was "Mom, are you crying?  Why are you crying?" over and over and over...The teachers were coming over to comfort me, not my children but ME!!!  So, I swallowed as hard as I could, kissed the kids on the head & Wes, Sam and I walked back home.  It was so strange only walking back with ONE!  Wes packed up, headed to work, and Sam realized HE now had the run of the place and could watch WHATEVER cartoon he wanted and  I was glad that I had something to get ready for & focus on...my 3rd annual Back to School Brunch!!
I began this little tradition of mine, the year Annie started Kindergarten, after reading about the idea in a magazine...I knew then, I was going to be a wreck, and thought this would be a great diversion & way to visit with some of my other friends who may or may not be going through the same thing.

(my invitation wording)
The time has come to send our children back to school
For some of us, it's to kindergarten and we're shedding a tear or two
But misery loves company, so I thought on a hunch
We should all get together for a Back to School Brunch!
Over the last couple years, the brunch has expanded a bit, some friends have moved, and others have joined us...everyone brings a "brunchy" item to share and any other younger siblings who are now left HOME ALONE!  It was a great time!!
Lots and lots of yummy, delicous food!!  We were all STUFFED!!
22 mamas including a few younger siblings celebrated the first morning of school together!  There's Mamamia on the left!!
What fun visiting...the last guests left a little after noon, and just like that the first day of school was almost over!
And how did Annie and Jack's first day go??
Well, about 1:00 I had an e-mail from Jack's teacher telling me he was doing great, but that he'd forgotten his towel for rest.  I replied back, oh no, I know it was in there, it's blue, it says rock star, has his name on the tag, maybe he didn't check all the zippered pockets of his backpack.  A few minutes later, she wrote "He found it!"
Typical, typical JACK!!
Then after school, she came up and again said he had a wonderful day, but was worried because he'd left his lunchbox in the classroom.  WOW!  What a year this is going to be!  Big sister, Annie to the rescue ran back in with him to find it!
Welcome to my world...if it's not RIGHT in front of his eyes, it doesn't exist!!  What an eye opener is this going to be for him!

Annie said her day was great until a little boy sitting close to her started throwing up...soooo, we talked about that for a good 5 minutes!  (poor thing) Otherwise, she LOVES her teacher and I can tell has such a super relationship with her already!  She has always been so independent and such a hard worker, that I know she will just BLOSSOM!

And Sam...
well, out of the mouths of babes...he and I are having some great conversations, now that he doesn't have to fight for my attention.  This morning...our topic was blueberries!  After clearing his breakfast plate, I asked him if he ate some because they would make him SUPER STRONG!!  "Sam, you'll be able to fly to the moon!"  To which he replied, "I can't fly to the moon, mama, I have to stay here with you!"
My only response..."YOU MELT MY HEART!"

On to orientation night tonight & tomorrow...and so it begins!

Anticipation

Backpacks are loaded & lunchboxes are ready to be filled...(sigh)
Can't believe I'll have TWO of my babies in school...where does the time go?  Where in the world did summer go??  Wonderful times we had & some sad too...but all in all, Summer '08 was great!

I'm hosting my 3rd annual Back to School Brunch Monday morning, so it'll be nice to hang out with my girlfriends & shed a tear or two...tears of joy & sadness!
Do you do anything special that first morning of school after the kiddos have been sent on their way???
We're headin' to the pool for a morning swim & lunch before we meet our teachers this afternoon.  I'm hoping to treasure every second!

If you're in need of something funny this Friday, you MUST go check out this video...I love the Today show & all the gang & this really made us giggle...my kids insist we watch it over & over!  I tried to upload it on my post, but apparently I'm not that techno savvy yet!  I'm really gonna miss the Olympics...they've been so awesome!

Happy Weekend!!

Summer Memories-Annie's Dance Recital

More summer memories to recall & smile...school is approaching fast & furious!  Teacher postcards were in the mail today and we were THRILLED with the teachers all 3 of the kiddos will be having!  Annie will be in 2nd grade & Jack will be starting KINDERGARTEN!!! next Monday.  Sam is chompin' at the bit to go to school & wants a backpack, a lunchbox, supplies...but he'll just be going to preschool Tuesdays/Thursdays from 8:45-11:45 and doesn't start till after Labor Day.  So fun to see him sooo excited though!

Annie completed her 4th year of dance the beginning of June & performed beautifully at her Spring Recital.  Her dance school puts on quite a production at a HUGE theater downtown, so just to get there, two days in a row for both the rehearsal & the actual show itself takes a lot of planning.  Once you see them on stage looking oh so fabulous, it is well worth it!  She loves performing!!  I took dance for 15 years & would STILL take if I could fit it into my schedule...I love, love to dance so watching her especially makes my heart swell!

Putting the finishing touches on her hair & fastening in that hat!  We did NOT want it flying off in the middle of the routine!
Quick snapshots outside on the riverwalk...this costume was such an eye catcher!
Her tap routine was choreographed to "Hit the Road, Jack"...the costume fit it perfectly!

Ballet was HER favorite this year...she LOVED the costume when she first tried it on.  It really made her look like a prima ballerina!
This dance was performed to the song, "Let's Go to the Movies" from the movie, ANNIE!!

Annie is SO VERY LUCKY in that she has her very own makeup artist do her up every year...Aunt Lindsey!!  Mama could never do as good a job, so we always make sure she's got her calendar marked to help us!

Annie and her adoring fans...what a cheering section!  She was feelin' the love...
Proud mama & daddy!

After the show, we headed to Mi Tierra downtown in the market for some YUM-MO Mexican food!  It was a perfect ending to a great day...
Cheers to a year of hard work & a beautiful job well done!

Port A Va-Ca

A few pics from our last getaway of summer!!  We hit the waves down in Port Aransas, stayed at the great Port Royal, ( I hadn't been there for years, so really cool to share that w/the kiddos) and enjoyed being in the water all day & into the night!  What is it with kids & swimming??? They just can never get enough!
This week, the calendar has begun filling up OH SO quickly with meetings, orientation nights, and school functions...(sigh)  It all just went by too fast!

Bringing Home the Gold

I have been absolutely GLUED to the Olympics every night...staying up waaaay too late, shedding lots of tears, and being OH SO PROUD to do it all over again the next day!  I love, love the Olympics!!  I even cried today when they showed a clip of the Georgian & Russian beach volleyball players hugging one another before their match despite all that is going on with their countries right now.  It is just amazing, and like nothing else!  The commercials have been even better than the Super Bowl in my opinion...go check out the original clip that one of the Visa ads is taken from, over at my buddy Honorary Indian's blog today...DEFINITELY a tear jerker & one that captures the Olympic spirit and the love and devotion of a parent.  INCREDIBLE!!

It may not have been the Olympics, but I was still a very proud sister of my brother, who even after all his years on the Varsity golf team in high school, still enjoys to get out on the courses EVERY chance he gets 6 years later.  He brought home a little of his own "gold" this weekend back in our hometown at one of the local tournaments.  He was very excited & when I checked out the online edition of The Cuero Record today, was tickled to see it already written up in the sports section with his picture!!!  Way to go, Brandon!!

Off to get dinner going...Olympic coverage starts in about an hour & I don't wanna miss a thing!
GO TEAM USA!!
